Substantive Law Committees

The Substantive Law Committees provide 'section' opportunities for the members of SCDTAA similar to those offered by the ABA. Those substantive law sections include:

  • Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Commercial Business Litigation
  • Construction
  • Employment
  • Insurance Defense/Torts
  • Law Firm Management
  • Commercial Litigation
  • Medical Malpractice
  • Products Liability
  • Trucking
  • Worker's Compensation

The committees were established three years ago and have now become particularly active.

Each substantive law committee is afforded the opportunity of a break-out session at the Joint and Annual meetings of the SCDTAA. These are scheduled so that defense lawyers with a specialty can attend both sections most closely related to his or her practice. For example, insurance defense and product liability are always scheduled on separate days.

The break-outs have gotten better and better. They are typically led by the committee chair, several members of the judiciary with significant experience in a given field, and his or her committee designees.

These sessions will often provide and discuss current case law, trends, counsel, and issues germane to the given section-all in a casual, candid, informative setting. Please consider active participation in one or more substantive law committees. Your participation is wholeheartedly welcome.
